Turmeric (Curcuma domestika, Zingiberaceae family) is a rhizome herb known for its rich yellow color and warm, pungent aroma. It’s native to India and southeast Asia and features prominently in the cuisines of those regions, where it’s readily available fresh, or in dried or powdered forms.

In addition to lending its golden hue and earthy flavor as an essential cooking ingredient in numerous dishes and beverages, turmeric is also used in various traditional remedies because of its medicinal properties. Some of the beneficial compounds found in turmeric include curcuminoids (strong anti-oxidants with anti-inflammatory properties) and essential oils that boost overall health.

PMA is producing Organic Dried Turmeric that is grown in Alor island in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province. Before PMA partnered with Alor’s local farmers, turmeric had never been cultivated there as a crop. Wild turmeric flourished in the forest areas and the locals used to harvest them once a year for their own use, then they would sell any excess in the market.

The organic farming method introduced by PMA is already in line with the traditional agricultural practices in Alor. Additionally, PMA is also training the local farmers to do ‘cost calculation’ to maximize productivity and profit, which can lead to the socio-economic improvement of the local communities.

PMA guarantees the purchase of the turmeric crop and we are also collaborating with the 'village enterprise' government program that will collect the harvest that used to fall into the control of middlemen.

Using the latest processing technology, PMA ensures that our premium dried turmeric meets all organic and international export standards.
